Word of the Day – The Bible is the most unique book that has ever been written. Today, let’s look more closely at why the scriptures seem to come alive to us even today. The Bible is the Christian’s primary source to understand who God is and what our identity or response to Him should look like. It was written by hundreds of men over thousands of years, yet it perfectly relays the nature of God. It is the only primary source we have to understand who He is outside of the Holy Spirit. We experience God as we read the Bible as He literally become alive to us through it.
The Word of God carries all authority; therefore, the bible is an authoritative word. The Bible derives its power from the person of Jesus Christ. That is because the Bible is the manifestation of God in written form. Talking about Jesus, the Gospel of John writes, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1-2 In scripture, we find that somehow the Words written on paper and Jesus are mysteriously linked.
The Word of God is perfect as it pertains to revealing the nature of God. The scriptures are literally Jesus teaching us about himself. That is why Paul taught us saying, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim. 3:16 The Bible is unique because if we read it with an open heart, it has the power to transform our hearts. The author of Hebrews relays this as he shares, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Heb. 4:12 So why should we read the Bible as Christians?
The Bible is the living manifestation of God in written form. Therefore, if we truly want to grow in our relationship with Him, all we have to do is snuggle up in our comfortable chair, sip some coffee, and let Him share about himself. How can a simple book that has been translated so many times and has interacted with so many cultures still be relevant to us today? It is simple: God doesn’t change. When we read the Word, it is literally Jesus standing next to us teaching us about His holiness. It carries authority because the one who speaks has all authority. Well it is getting late, and I have a date… with a book… I am so excited to sit as His feet as He shares about His holiness and love.
